By Miguel in Linkwood , Tobermory , Springbank , Littlemill

The whisky fairy ringed my door a few days ago with a set of exclusive bottles for The Whisky Barrel. A nice set of single cask, cask strength whiskies from Springbank, Tobermory, Linkwood and a stunning Littlemill.

By Miguel in Tasting , Featured , Arran , Bunnahabhain , Master of Malt , Tobermory , Springbank , Clynelish , Auchentoshan , Tormore , Braes of Glenlivet

As I was writing you yesterday, whisky fairy knocked my door with a box ( well, two in fact ) full of whisky samples of Master of Malt’s Single Cask Whiskies.

Apart of three very interesting That Boutique-y whiskies, the box had eleven samples of the new bottling, that if you know them are stunning most of times… just thinking of this Bowmore, this Glenturret or … ejem… well… to the point, about these eleven single cask whiskies.

Kids! Don’t do this at home! Eleven drams, one evening. Let’s find the best one.

Tasting Ledaig 6 years old Single Malts of Scotland

By Miguel in Tasting , Tobermory

“Massive sherry character for a six years old Tobermory. Beware of the peat”

89
Ledaig (Tobermory) 2005 / 6 Year Old / Sherry Butt Island Whisky
Ledaig is the peated spirit made at Tobermory distillery on the Isle of Mull. This feisty young cask strength whippersnapper shows plenty of muscle and exhibits flavours of bonfires, honey and fruit cake thanks to maturation in a sherry cask. A massive hit at 2012's TWE Whisky Show.

This dram has a cooper-like color.

Nose (88): strong. honey, peat, fruity, leather, nuts.

Palate (89): powerful, oily. peat, honey, citrus.

Finish (89): longer than average. peat, citrus.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Ledaig (Tobermory) 2005 / 6 Year Old / Sherry Butt Island Whisky with 89 points over 100.

Tasting Compass Box Flaming Heart vs Peat Monster

By Miguel in Tasting , Featured , Laphroaig , Caol Ila , Compass Box , Tobermory , Ardmore

When visiting London for TWE Whisky Show, I meet Chris Maybin, Comercial director of Compass Box. Chris gave me a sample of the new Compass Box Flaming Heart 4thbatch to taste it at home.

Well, finally I arranged a free evening for tasting it when I saw @WhiskyLassie asking how it compared against Compass Box Peat Monster. Also I have a pending task of tasting the old recipe of Peat Monster with Laphroaig and Ardmore against the new recipe using Caol Ila, Ledaig and Ardmore.

A great tasting was starting to appear before me.

I have just complete the first floor of The Whisky Exchange Whisky Show, and after tasting very nice whiskies as Talisker 35, Midleton Rare or several Kavalan Solist. Now I run for the ground floor where more whisky is awaiting me.

Hurry up! Hurry up Miguel! Ok, first floor has the whisky and food pairings, sure, very interesting. Thank you very much sir.

Going one floor under it. Wooa! Mother of God! So much whiskies and so little time. Only two and a half hours for the show to close. ok! Ok! Don’t panic!.

Tobermory 10 years old Tasting note

By Miguel in Tasting , Tobermory
88
Tobermory 10 year
The unpeated malt from the producers of Ledaig, Tobermory hails from the Isle of Mull and is a more gentle medium-bodied, accessible malt than its peated sister. A good aperitif malt.

This dram has a white-like color.

Nose (92): inexistent. sweet, sherry, nuts, honey, cocoa, oranges. First nosing data is innacurate as the previous tasting sheet lacked of this field.

Palate (84): . sweet, hot, smoke, wood, sherry, nuts, citrus, strong. Bouquet data is innacurate as the previous tasting sheet lacked of this field.

Finish (88): no finish. honey, sherry, peat, nuts. Finish length is innacurate as the previous tasting sheet lacked of this field.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Tobermory 10 year with 88 points over 100.
