in Tasting , Featured , Master of Malt , Bowmore , Springbank , InvergordonWhisky fairy knocked a few days ago at home with a huge amount of samples from Master of Malt new bottlings, three new That Boutique-y whiskies and almost a dozen of their latest Single Cask releases.
I will taste today the three That Boutique-y whiskies: Invergordon, Springbank and Bowmore. They are a range of bottles crafted in small batches of which I reviewed seven of them just a few months ago ( many of them sold out by now unfortunately for you ).
One of the things I love about these bottling are the awesome labels… well and the fact that the whiskies inside the bottle are great. Let’s taste them…
Invergordon Batch 1 That Boutique-y
This Invergordon is the first grain whisky featured in the That Boutique-y and what a better label could it have that the internal mechanics of a Coffey or Continuous still.
A grain whisky is whisky done using other grains apart of malted barley, usually corn. Most of them are distilled on still such as the above, which removes much of the flavour but make it more cost effective that batches approach of traditional pot still.
“Very old and dry. Quite interesting single grain whisky. A must if you enjoy bourbons. A bit more of sweetness in the palate would have turned this dram in something transcendental”
‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles Scotch Single Malt and Single Grain Whiskies from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with cultish comic book-style labels.
This is Batch 1, with a release of 252 numbered bottles.
This dram has a cooper-like color.
Nose (91): more than average. honey, toffee, floral, spices, wood, dust, vanilla. Very bourbon like, with a delicious toffee character
Palate (91): powerful, oily. vanilla, floral, spices, cloves, dust, wood, citrus. Like a very intense sherry Amontillado wine. Spicy.
Finish (90): longer than average. wood, spices, citrus, floral.
So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Invergordon - Batch 1 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company) with 91 points over 100.Springbank Batch 1 That Boutique-y
This label features the duo from Caskstrength.net, Neil Ridley and Joel Harrison, operating a somewhat Heath-Robinson contraption being used to drive Springbank’s fantastic old Porteus-Brand Grain mill. Huh?! Let’s taste the whisky.
“Exciting Springbank whisky! This malt has a good dose of peat and spices to keep you happy and healthy for days”

And finally some Islay healthy stuff to complete the tasting. This label features a young person running away with a bra…( There is a swimming pool next to Bowmore distillery. Its water is heated using waste heat from the distillery )
“Nice Bowmore with a moderate peat profile. Good one, but I prefer more peated drams”

This label features the distillery of Bowmore. Behind the outer wall sits the famous Malt Mobile. A cheeky schoolboy, clasping a bra, tears across the foreground chased by a life guard from the nearby pool, heated by the waste heat from Bowmore’s copper pot stills.

This dram has a cooper-like color.
Nose (88): average. peat, honey, meat, spices, floral. Subtle, delicate, it is peated but it doesn't shout about it.
Palate (89): powerful, oily. peat, citrus, honey, spices, pepper, wood, floral.
Finish (90): longer than average. peat, citrus, floral.
So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Bowmore - Batch 1 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company) with 89 points over 100.Miguel says
If you are about collecting, just buy them all ( much like Pokemon! ). Labels are fantastic and the stuff inside is really magnifique.
Personally, I have really enjoyed the single grain whisky. I love such old whiskies and this one for £60 is quite a bargain. The Springbank is something sensational with just the right amount of spices and peat.
The Bowmore, although quite nice, is too subtle for me. I prefer more peated drams and I know Bowmore can be more peated than this one, such as this Bowmore.
If I could only buy one, I would get the Springbank.
