Glencadam 22 years old The Rare Casks

By Miguel in Tasting , Glencadam

A few days ago I received a sample of this fourth addition to the Rare Casks range of whiskies by Abbey Whisky.

2014-05-08 16.47.42

So as I was a huge fan of their Bunnahabhain and their Caperdonich I hurried myself into tasting this whisky…

“Fantastic whisky with a good nose that turns into a great taste after the first sip. Great addition to The Rare Casks range”

Glencadam 22 years old The Rare Casks

This dram has a fino-like color.

Nose (91): more than average. honey, vanilla, spices, toffee, citrus, wine, cream.

Palate (92): powerful, oily. honey, citrus, spices, vanilla, cherry, wood, cinnamon, apples.

Finish (92): longer than average. honey, spices, vanilla.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Glencadam 22 years old The Rare Casks with 92 points over 100.

Miguel says…

At first it is nice with toffee and wine notes but then after the first sip it turns in a fantastic whisky. Pretty much in love with it… as much as the Glendronach I got from them.

Glencadam 14 years old Oloroso Sherry Finish Review

By Miguel in Glencadam

I am not a friend of finished whiskies nor a friend of Highlands whiskies. I dunno why but they don’t taste right for me. I think Highland whiskies ( like Tomatin, Glenglassaugh or Glenmorangie ) are usually too floral and dry for my taste. And usually when they finish it the result is a whisky that isn’t sherried enough to override the floral aroma ( that I suppose some of you may find lovely… Do you? ).

So I am reviewing today a Glencadam 14 years old finished in Oloroso sherry casks ( yes, the same casks that mature Glendronach Revival or Macallan Sienna ).

“Very nice finished whisky. It isn't an outstanding malt but it is a quite good one. Good work!”

Glencadam 14 Year Old / Oloroso Sherry Finish Highland Whisky
70cl / 46% / Distillery Bottling - This 14yo Glencadam has been finished in sweet Oloroso sherry casks for a bit of extra depth and complexity. This distillery has been going great guns since its packaging relaunch in late 2008.

This dram has a fino-like color.

Nose (88): more than average. honey, nuts, citrus, floral, vanilla.

Palate (88): powerful, oily. honey, nuts, citrus, floral, spices, pepper, wood.

Finish (89): longer than average. nuts, honey, vanilla.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Glencadam 14 Year Old / Oloroso Sherry Finish Highland Whisky with 88 points over 100.

Interesting whisky with a nice taste, but I really prefer truely sherried whiskies like this 32 years old Glencadam.

This post continue from TWE Whisky Show [Part 3]

The Whisky Exchange Whisky Show 2012 took place at October 6th and 7th and although it has been a great experience it has been a short one. With over 450 whiskies to taste and just barely six hours ahead it was impossible to taste them all.

What I couldn’t taste

This post is just a set of photos of what I couldn’t taste. Sorry, people… I can write about this because I get sad… so great stuff that I had to skip… *sniff*

I visited Compass Box stand for saying hi to Chris and I take a few photos with the people on the show.

Tasting Glencadam 15 years old Highland Whisky

By Miguel in Tasting , Glencadam

“Lovely taste in this Glencadam whisky with notes of fresh fruits and honey”

87
Glencadam 15 Year Old
Fancy new presentation for the Glencadam 15, which has also sensibly been restored to 46% by owners Angus Dundee, who snapped up the distillery from Allied in 2003.

This Highlands single malt whisky is very representative of the region as it portrait the expected floral and honey notes of Highland scotches.

This dram has a fino-like color.

Nose (84): more than average. floral, honey, fruits, spices, vanilla.

Palate (89): smooth, powerful, oily. floral, honey, wood, fruits, pears, citrus, wood.

Finish (88): average. honey, floral, citrus, vanilla.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Glencadam 15 Year Old with 87 points over 100.
