Aberlour A'Bunadh Batch 35 Tasting note

By Miguel in Tasting , Aberlour

“Wonderful whisky!. This Aberlour is really a no-brainer buying option if you like sherried whiskies. Batches vary between them but they are all rather good.”

91
Aberlour A'Bunadh Batch 35
If you want intense, spicy Oloroso sherry, masses of character, and at natural cask strength, all for under £40, it has to be a'Bunadh. Batch 35 is a stinker!

Aberlour A'bunadh is a cask strength Speyside single malt whisky that is released by the distillery in small batches each with a slightly different profile but all on the sherry monsters style.

Really a must have and a whisky that is almost near to the almighty Macallan 10 years old Cask Strength.

This dram has a cooper-like color.

Nose (90): more than average. honey, nuts, citrus, floral, cocoa. Nice nose but it is slightly closed. A bit hard to nose it at 60% abv.

Palate (93): smooth, powerful, oily. honey, nuts, leather, citrus, spices, wood, raisins.

Finish (90): long. honey, nuts, citrus, spices, cinnamon.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Aberlour A'Bunadh Batch 35 with 91 points over 100.

Laphroaig Triple wood Tasting note

By Miguel in Tasting , Laphroaig

“Nice Laphroaig whisky with one foot on the woody area. Interesting.”

90
Laphroaig Triple wood
The complex, peaty flavour of Laphroaig Triple Wood is the result of maturation in three different types of barrel: ex-Bourbon barrels, European oak casks (‘butts’) and traditional Quarter Casks.

Laphroaig Triple Wood is then bottled – without being chill-filtered – at 48% ABV.

You can think about it as a extra-aged Laphroaig Quarter Cask single malt whisky were sweetness has been replaced by a moderate woody profile. Interesting scotch.

This dram has a amber-like color.

Nose (90): more than average. peat, honey, citrus, iodine, sea, wood, spices. Very Laphroaig nose with a surprising notes of wood and spices.

Palate (90): powerful. peat, honey, wood, raisins, spices, iodine, coffee.

Finish (89): longer than average. peat, citrus, wood.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Laphroaig Triple wood with 90 points over 100.

The Macallan the 1824 Collection Whisky Maker's Edition Tasting note

By Miguel in Tasting , The Macallan

“It is hard to find an Oloroso cask aged whisky that let the character of Macallan shine in such a way. Absolutely delicious.”

89
Macallan The 1824 Collection Whisky Maker's Edition
According to The Macallan, "Containing rare whisky distilled from barley grown on The Macallan's Estate which brings a velvety mouthfeel, Whisky Maker's Edition recognises the skill and dedication of The Macallan's Whisky Maker, Bob Dalgarno. Bottled at Bob's preferred strength of 42.8%, this has an intensity and robustness of flavor."

Less obviously sweet on the nose than Select Oak, this Edition offers a nose of toffee, raisins, figs and honey. The palate is rounded, full and spicy, with nutmeg, leather, hazelnuts and chocolate orange. Lengthy in the finish, with nutty, dark chocolate, a whiff of smoke and mild oak.

It is one of the nicest sherried Macallan that allow the true characteristics of the Macallan spirit to shine. Lovely one. Part of the 1824 Collection that was originally created as a travel retail exclusive.

If you like this whisky you should try some of the Sherry Oak Macallans.

This dram has a amber-like color.

Nose (88): more than average. honey, toffee, floral, citrus, nuts, cocoa.

Palate (90): smooth, powerful, oily. honey, wood, nuts, leather, tobacco, nuts. Wonderful! Oloroso cask! Like I love it!

Finish (90): longer than average. honey, nuts, leather, oranges.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Macallan The 1824 Collection Whisky Maker's Edition with 89 points over 100.

Don’t miss the interview with Bob Dalgarno, whisky maker at the Macallan and responsible of the successful 1824 Collection.
