The Whisky Barrel's Burns Malt Exclusive bottlings

The whisky fairy ringed my door a few days ago with a set of exclusive bottles for The Whisky Barrel. A nice set of single cask, cask strength whiskies from Springbank, Tobermory, Linkwood and a stunning Littlemill.

I have reviewed on the past several exclusive whiskies from The Whisky Barrel and they bottle quite fantastic drams for their Burns Malt series, so my expectations for this set of samples is quite high… let’s see if they live to it!

Littlemill 1992 20 years old Cask 9 Berry Bros & Rudd

Littlemill 1992 / 20 Year Old / Cask #9 / Berry Bros& Rudd Lowland Whisky
A 20 year old single cask whisky from closed Littlemill, distilled in 1992 and bottled in 2012 by independent wine and spirits merchant Berry Brothers & Rudd.

This dram has a gold-like color.

Nose (91): more than average. honey, fruits, spices, floral, anise. Quite floral dram.

Palate (90): powerful, oily. ginger, honey, floral, spices, juniper.

Finish (90): longer than average. floral, citrus, spices.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Littlemill 1992 / 20 Year Old / Cask #9 / Berry Bros& Rudd Lowland Whisky with 90 points over 100.

Whisky Tasting Session 2013-02

Oh my! Time goes so fast. We are already in April! So here are the results for this second session of Whisky Distilleries Tasting.

As usual Jean-Marie Putz of Whisky-distilleries.info proposed six unnamed samples on a stunning box like previous tastings.

As I explained a blind tasting is a quite interesting experience because tasting whiskies in this way you really pay more attention to the whisky and less to the bottle. I am enjoying so much this kind of tastings that I am starting doing myself them with my samples, keeps your eyes peeled for more info about this soon.

Palate (89): dry, powerful, oily. honey, spices, pepper, citrus, floral, spices, anise.

Finish (90): longer than average. honey, floral, wood, spices.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Littlemill 21 Year Old Burns Malt with 90 points over 100.

Littlemill 1990 18 years old Bourbon Cask Tasting note

Littlemill 1990 / 18 Year Old / Bourbon Cask Lowland Whisky
This Littlemill was distilled in 1990, and aged in bourbon barrels before bottling at the Bruichladdich distillery in 2008.

A release of 1,215 bottles from Murray McDavid's Mission Gold Series.

Lovely licorice experience in this whisky and it isn't finished in any kind of strange casks. Yay!

This dram has a gold-like color.

Nose (87): average. honey, spices, floral, vanilla, baked apples.

Palate (88): powerful, oily. honey, wood, spices, pepper, licorice.

Finish (88): longer than average. honey, licorice, spices.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Littlemill 1990 / 18 Year Old / Bourbon Cask Lowland Whisky with 88 points over 100.
