Ardbog & The Macallan 1824 Collection

By Miguel in Laphroaig , Glenlivet , The Macallan , Whisky , Longmorn

ardbog-macallan-1824-collection-glenlivet-alpha

Yay! Lots of interesting stuff this month! Finally grabbed my bottle of Ardbog and completed The Macallan 1824 Collection range of bottles. Also got a old Longmorn 15 years old and the new Talisker Port Ruighe that I plan tasting really soon. Also just I have just got a bottle of Laphroaig QA and a Glenfiddich Age of Discovery Madeira Cask.

So mysterious Alpha was that I forgot the mention it. Not sure that it is worth £100 but a really nice whisky.

What have you got lately? Any interesting dram that you have missed?

Glenlivet #Alpha Tweet Tasting

By Miguel in Tasting , Featured , Glenlivet

Hello there,
Yesterday, we had another great tweet tasting with The Glenlivet and Steve from The Whisky Wire. To be honest I were not going to apply to this tasting because I had already tasted the Glenlivet 12, 15 and 18 ( oops, looks like I didn’t taste it ) and although Alpha was somewhat appealing I though I was just a marketing move.

But I was offered a seat and who of you would reject free whisky, and what the hell, I really want to revisit the Glenlivet range. After touching the miniature of Alpha I started to get excited about the idea of such a mysterious whisky label and I have ordered one full-bottle for myself ( The Whisky Exchange is still stocking Alpha. One per client. )

Whisky Tasting Session 2013-02

By Miguel in Tasting , Glenlivet , Bunnahabhain , Auchentoshan , Littlemill , Benrinnes , Wilson & Morgan

Oh my! Time goes so fast. We are already in April! So here are the results for this second session of Whisky Distilleries Tasting.

As usual Jean-Marie Putz of Whisky-distilleries.info proposed six unnamed samples on a stunning box like previous tastings.

As I explained a blind tasting is a quite interesting experience because tasting whiskies in this way you really pay more attention to the whisky and less to the bottle. I am enjoying so much this kind of tastings that I am starting doing myself them with my samples, keeps your eyes peeled for more info about this soon.

But anyway, here are the whiskies…

The Glenlivet Master Distiller's Reserve Tasting note

By Miguel in Tasting , Glenlivet

“Very nice Glenlivet whisky with a lovely malt character all along it: butterscotch whisky!”

90
The Glenlivet Master Distiller's Reserve 1l
A special edition of Glenlivet that was originally released as a travel retail exclusive.

Designed by Alan Winchester, only the 3rd Master Distiller at Glenlivet since their 1817 founding, and combining whisky matured in both first and refill casks from both Europe and the USA.

If you enjoyed this whisky you may like to try AnCnoc 16 years old.

This dram has a gold-like color.

Nose (91): more than average. honey, malt, butterscotch, vanilla, floral, citrus.

Palate (89): light, smooth, oily. honey, biscuits, vanilla, floral, spices, pepper, a bit milk chocolate.

Finish (89): longer than average. honey, pepper, wood.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this The Glenlivet Master Distiller's Reserve 1l with 90 points over 100.

Glenlivet 70 Year Old 1940

By Miguel in News , Glenlivet

Glenlivet 70 year old 1940 whisky

Gordon and MacPhail’s has done again. After last years Mortlach 70 years old, they have released now for its Gordon and MacPhail’s Generations range, the second ever 70 year old whisky! Presented at a ceremony in Edinburgh Castle and described as a “stupendous”, “smooth” and “voluptuous” single malt, and released under G&M’s Generations label, only 100 full-size bottles of this Glenlivet 70 years old exclusive whisky will be available to buy in 2011, each is presented in a stunning decanter.

This Glenlivet 70 years old was distilled on the 3rd February 1940, and aged in a first fill sherry butt.
Each bottle costing £13000 it won’t last long. *grin*

The worst thing about all this is that despite of being so expensive someone will buy it :)

You can have a look to one, until it last I mean, at Master of Malt from where the photo is taken.

*sniff*
