Try Before you Buy: Whisky Samples and Miniatures
Don't you hate when you spend a lot of money on a bottle of whisky and it is a bad one.
Never again! Buy a sample and get an idea of how good or bad is the whisky before buying a a full bottle. I personally get my samples from Master of Malt because they have a fair price and come in a very solid and nice glass flask.
If you decide to buy miniatures instead, just keep in mind that the older the miniature that easier it is that the whisky is spoiled. You can't know! As Forrest Gump once said whisky miniatures are like a chocolate box, you never know what you are going to get... I have a rate of around 3% of spoiled miniatures.

St Magdalene
- “Also known as Linlithgow, this lost Lowlands distillery was built in the mid-18th century by Sebastian Henderson and operated for well over 200 years before being closed in the great cull of 1983. It had passed to A & J Dawson in 1798 before being acquired by DCL in 1912. The distillery was re-equipped in 1927 and had its own floor maltings until 1968, after which it bought in malt from Glenesk. Despite a capacity of around 200,000 gallons a year of production, there were no official bottlings during its lifetime, and most malt fans had barely heard of it until a series of stunning Rare Malt bottlings (as St. Magdalene) in the mid-to-late 1990s. It is now one of the most lamented lost distilleries (the buildings have been converted to private housing), and Rare Malt bottlings are hungrily seized upon by aficionados and collectors alike.”

Talisker
- “The distillery was built in 1830 by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill, and expanded in 1900. During this early period, the whisky was produced using a triple distilling method, but changed to the more conventional double distilling in 1928. The distillery was nearly destroyed by fire in 1960, however five exact replicas of the original stills were constructed to preserve the original Talisker flavour. Talisker was a favourite whisky of writers Robert Louis Stevenson and Henry Vollam Morton.[citation needed] The distillery operates five stills, two wash stills and three spirit stills. All the stills use worm tubs (condensing coils) rather than a modern condenser, which are believed to give the whisky a "fuller" flavour (itself an indication of higher sugar content).”
