FT: Octomore whiskies

By Miguel in Tasting , Bruichladdich

– Look mum! There is a gazillion pounds on the floor.
– Nice, go and get one Octomore bottle, try to buy some glasses with the rest of the money.

I love peated whiskies, I love Ardbeg, I love Laphroaig, I love Lagavuling and I love Octomore, but for Christ’s sake… who is pricing it?! What do you want from me?! I can afford maybe one very special bottle at £100, maybe two, but if you plan to release 2-3 per year and each one is more and more expensive… well… you will end up with something like this photo.

8 bottles of Octomore and all of them closes. Most fuckers persons are buying them to speculate and sell later for a nice profit margin. That’s quite a sad finish for a whisky…

Another post for the Fucking thief. Stealing other persons’ whisky so you can know about it. Is this your photo? Write me to fthief@awardrobeofwhisky.com and I will pay you… homage… and share with A Wardrobe of Whisky’s readers your experience on the tasting. Slainte!

So, stand up! Let’s honour them in such a way that people cry not when you open the bottle but when you finish it!

To the whiskies, gentlemen ( and laddies! )…

Octomore 01.1

“Liquid peat ambrosia. Tasty!.”

91
Bruichladdich Octomore 01.1
The now very rare first release of Bruichladdich’s Octomore. When it was released it was the world’s peatiest whisky, with phenol levels of 131ppm. This has since been eclipsed by the astonishing peaty punch of the second edition, but this will remain the original!

Octomore 02.1

“ Splash! Peat! Splash! More peat! Splash! Octomore! Peat, sea, Islay, awesome whisky from Bruichladdich at an incredible peat level of 140ppm.”

93
Octomore Edition 02.1
This is the second release of Bruichladdich's Octomore, the world's most heavily-peated whisky at 140ppm. This year's edition comes in at 62.5% and promises to be another treat for brave peat-freaks.

Launched after the collectors sought Octomore 01.1

Definitively a must try. for any peat head. By the way, Ardbeg also has their own peat monster: Ardbeg Supernova

93
Octomore 02.2 Orpheus

90

Miguel says…

What can I say? I love this whisky… but prices are so obscenely wrong… it is a pity because the stuff is really good. I still have nightmares about not buying the 10 years old… but is was so out of mind expensive.
