CaskStrength.net Cutty Sark Review

When I knew that the guys behind CaskStrength.net were doing a blend together with Cutty Sark for the C letter of the alphabet of whisky I decided I must have that bottle. I am seriously lagging in tasting whisky but finally came the moment to review this dram.

You all know that I am not a fan of blended whiskies, I can only stand Chivas 21 or Blue Label between others… but never truly enjoyed a Cutty Sark… so let’s cross fingers and let’s review this whisky.

Caskstrength and Carry On (Cutty Sark)
Bottled at 51.4% (UK 90 Proof) this release coincides with the 90th anniversary of the Cutty Sark brand and just 500 hand-signed bottles will be available exclusively from Master of Malt.

This dram has a fino-like color.

Nose (89): more than average. toffee, vanilla, citrus, floral. Delicious. Very well done.

Palate (90): powerful, oily. toffee, citrus, wood, spices, cinnamon, liquorice, plums.

Finish (90): longer than average. toffee, liquorice, citrus.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Caskstrength and Carry On (Cutty Sark) with 90 points over 100.

This is an awesome whisky! Really other blenders should really start releasing special limited releases *wink* of their whiskies at cask strength. It is so much better than the original Cutty Sark. Good work!

Talisker Port Ruighe, Jura 1999 XU, Arran Eagle and Cutty Storm

A few weeks after tasting Talisker Storm I knew that Talisker was releasing another bottling, this time finished in Port casks: Talisker Port Ruighe.

You can imagine how I felt!. I am not what you would call a fan of Talisker but I really enjoy the peat and pepper character of its whiskies and I have been in love with it since I tasted some of Talisker oldest bottles. I tried by all the means to get a sample from the distillery but…

I have had to wait for the guys of Master of Malt to released it in their drink by the dram section ( God bless them! ). So just to complete the tasting I added other whiskies that I were really interested in tasting: A Jura 1999 Bourbon XU, a now discontinued Arran The Eagle and the new Cutty Storm.

I have no idea how each of them are, but the Jura that says heavily peated… so let’s begin with the blended whisky.

Cutty Sark Tasting note

Cutty Sark
The Cutty Sark blend is made up of around twenty renowned single whiskies, predominantly from the Speyside region in Scotland, which are blended with high quality grain whiskies. These single malt and single grain whiskies are matured in carefully selected American oak casks.

This dram has a white-like color.

Nose (76): inexistent. sweet, grain, fruits: pears, mango, berries and matured melon. First nosing data is innacurate as the previous tasting sheet lacked of this field.

Palate (88): . sweet, honey, barley and fruits. Bouquet data is innacurate as the previous tasting sheet lacked of this field.

Finish (76): no finish. honey, some wood. Finish length is innacurate as the previous tasting sheet lacked of this field.

So based on other whiskies I have already tasted I rate this Cutty Sark with 80 points over 100.
