Between the Moray Firth and the Hills of Cromdale, stands the City and Royal Burgh of Elgin, the home of Gordon& MacPhail. The cathedral depicted on the label was burnt down in 1390, by the feared Wolf of Badenoch - the illegitimate son of a Scottish King. There are over 30 distilleries within the vicinity of Elgin and this vatted malt is an apt tribute to the quality malts they produce. Colour:Golden brown. Nose without water: Sweet - vanilla and fudge aromas balanced with a spicy fruity note - toffee apples. Palate without water: Sweet, creamy caramel flavour with spicy, earthy notes and a subtle floral edge. Nose with water: Floral/perfumed with a spicy fruity note - balanced. Palate with water: Dry, slightly peppery and a hint of smoke. Subtle dried fruit in the background. Body: Medium. Finish: Fruity - raisins & sultanas. Whisky Style: Balanced - nice array of aromas and flavours.
