The Spice Tree was first launched in 2005, but in 2006 the Scotch Whisky Association forced Compass Box to stop production. What was special about Spice Tree was the secondary maturation whisky was aged using 195 year old French oak staves which were inserted into the whisky barrels. The SWA decided that this non-traditional practice was not appropriate for the production of Scotch Whisky so compass box discontinued production until several years later when they managed through a new production method to release a new legal version. This is a rare bottle of the original now banned version.
